PUBLIC BUY-BACK RECYCLING CENTER/FREE DROP-OFF AREA TO BE RELOCATED

Updated August 2010

The public buy-back center and free recycling drop-off area at the Shoreway Recycling and Disposal Center is located in San Carlos at 333 Shoreway Road. Currently, the buy-back center and free recycling drop-off area is located at a temporary site in front of the Transfer Station and can be accessed through Gate #2. They will be moved to their permanent location in front of the new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF, where the recyclables will be processed once construction is completed) in September 2010, and will be accessed by the public through Gate #1 of the facility.

On-site signage and personnel will also assist in directing the public to the new location. When complete, the construction will provide the public a safer and more convenient service.

CONSTRUCTION AT TRANSFER STATION AND RECYCLING CENTER

 Updated August 2010

The Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), where recyclables will be processed is currently under construction and the new processing equipment is being installed.  When completed in the spring of 2011, the new recycling processing equipment will be able to sort single stream recyclables (all recycling mixed together) on site.

Other features of the new MRF building will include a public education center and tours of the facility.  The building will also house the offices of South Bay Recycling (SBR), who will operate the facility for RethinkWaste, starting in January 2011.

The Transfer Station construction will start in September 2010, expanding the public unloading area for increased safety and convenience.  The added space will also provide room for additional onsite sorting and recycling activities.  The construction is also expected to be completed in the spring of 2011, and include such enhancements as new environmentally friendly lighting and ventilation.
