RethinkWaste is a joint powers authority of eleven public agencies (Belmont, Burlingame, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Hillsborough, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Mateo, the County of San Mateo and the West Bay Sanitary District) in San Mateo County, California and is a leader in the delivery of innovative waste reduction and recycling programs.
Board Of Directors Meetings
Each RethinkWaste Member Agency selects its elected representative to serve on the RethinkWaste Board of Directors. The Chair and Vice Chair are selected annually by the Board. Board of Directors’ meetings are held the fourth Thursday of every month unless otherwise noted. Please refer to the Agenda for location changes. View the full Board meeting schedule here.
Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) Meetings
Committee Makeup:
The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is an eleven (11) member committee consisting of County, District, City or Town
Manager’s qualified designee from each of RethinkWaste’s Member Agencies.
Committee Meetings:
The TAC meets on the second Thursday of March, June, and September from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
Committee Purpose:
The TAC serves in an advisory capacity to each of the Board Members and assists Board Members with their decision making
process as desired on technical issues related to RethinkWaste.
Finance Committee Meetings
Committee Makeup:
The Finance Committee is a five (5) member committee consisting of three (3) Board Members and two (2) senior finance department staff members from RethinkWaste’s Member Agencies. From time to time the Board will appoint an Ex-Officio Board Member to serve a one-year term on the Finance Committee to act as a continuity advisor to new members of the committee (This has previously occurred in 2021 and 2025).
Committee Meetings:
The Finance Committee typically meets on the second Tuesday of March, June and October unless otherwise noted.
Committee Purpose:
The Finance Committee serves in a financial advisory capacity to the Board and reviews all financial reports and budgets prior to Board approval.
Legislative Committee Meetings
Committee Makeup:
The Legislative Committee is a four (4) member committee consisting of Board Members.
Committee Meetings:
The Legislative Committee meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. unless otherwise noted (excluding August and
December).
Committee Purpose:
The Legislative Committee serves in an advisory capacity on issues related to legislative and regulatory policies to the full board,
including but not limited to matters dealing with California state legislation, ballot measures, and regulatory processes. The Committee also reviews and provides input into the agency’s biannual Legislative and Regulatory Platform.
Study Sessions
Periodically, the Board and TAC will meet together at a Study Session to have an in-depth discussion on particular matters that need further review.
