Large area rugs, wall-to-wall carpet, carpet tiles, and carpet padding can be taken to Shoreway Environmental Center’s Transfer Station for recycling or disposal. Fees will apply. To have it recycled, please make sure it’s clean and follows the guidelines here.
Smaller rugs such as bathroom or kitchen rugs should be placed in your landfill bin.
Small rolls of carpet are also accepted via Recology San Mateo County’s Bulky Item Collection Program.
Alternative Ways to Recycle Carpet
- Ask your carpet installer. Some carpet retailers have recycling programs already in place. Ask the carpet installer if they participate in recycling programs for old carpet. Learn more here.
