RethinkWaste is hosting its annual Rethink Recycling Day (RRD) in-person at the Shoreway Environmental Center! RRD originated from America Recycles Day, which is traditionally celebrated the second week of November. As the name indicates, America Recycles Day is dedicated to promoting recycling in the United States. Our RethinkWaste team decided to put our own spin on the holiday to highlight other forms of waste reduction, since recycling is only part of the solution!

Not sure what to do with your stash of burned-out candles? You can refill and reuse them! RethinkWaste and a special, local candle-maker will provide materials, instruction, and guidance in how to prep and fill used glass containers and old candles to create new ones. It’s like having an eternal flame – we can continue to refill, reuse, and burn them infinitely!

Join a special weekend tour of the Shoreway Environmental Center during Rethink Recycling Day! RethinkWaste staff will provide an inside look at how recyclables are sorted in our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and how compost and garbage are consolidated at the Transfer Station. Staff will also review bin sorting, discuss reuse and reduction tips, and answer all your tricky questions about where items belong (or don’t belong!) when you no longer need them.

Limited spots available. Minimum age to attend is 8 years old. Participants must comply with all safety guidelines and policies while onsite.
PUMPKIN DECORATING
Decorate seasonal pumpkins with nature! Instead of adorning your gourd with non-compostable materials like paint, glue, and glitter, use compostable materials like flowers, leaves, and natural glue. Better for the earth and better to accessorize with!
