IMPORTANT NOTICE

Due to the current Shelter in Place Order given by San Mateo County’s Health Officer, the Shoreway Environmental Center is closed to the public until at least April 7This includes the Public Recycling Center and the Transfer Station. Please note that recycling, composting, and garbage services will still occur for residents and businesses by Recology San Mateo County in the RethinkWaste service area as this is an essential infrastructure service.

Public Recycling Center

The buyback portion of the Public Recycling Center (PRC) is closed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. For alternate local buyback locations, please visit RecycleStuff.org.

The PRC will continue to accept free drop off of the following items from residents only:

  • auto batteries
  • cardboard
  • cooking oil (residential only, up to 15 gallons)
  • electronic waste (TVs, computers, etc.)
  • fluorescent lights (residential only, up to 6 feet in length and limit 6 tubes per visit)
  • household batteries
  • latex and oil-based paint (up to 10 gallons)
  • small appliances (items with a power cord that do not contain fuel, batteries, or refrigerants)
  • sharps (must be in an authorized sharps container)
  • used motor oil (up to 15 gallons), oil filters, and antifreeze (up to 10 gallons)

Closed on Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day


The Transfer Station

The Transfer Station is used for the unloading and transfer of solid waste, construction and demolition (C&D) debris, and organics. Public entrance to the Transfer Station is through Gate 1. Click here for list of current rates.
