In-Person Business & Organization Tours

In-person tours of the Shoreway Environmental Center provide an inside look at how recyclables are sorted in our upgraded Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and how compost and garbage are consolidated at the Transfer Station. RethinkWaste staff will also review bin sorting, discuss reuse and reduction tips, and answer all your tricky questions about where items belong (or don’t belong!) when you no longer need them.

Registration is free. Tours are limited to a maximum of 20 guests per tour. Tours are approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes long.

RethinkWaste reserves the right to cancel any tour depending on staff coverage and the current status of COVID-19 in San Mateo County.

Tour requirements:

  • All tour participants are required to wear a mask. for the entire duration of the tour, as social-distancing of 6 feet is not always possible in all parts of the facility.
  • All registrants are required to complete a permission form. You may download, print, and bring a signed copy the day of the tour, or printed copies will be available to sign upon your arrival at Shoreway. Each participant must fill out an individual permission form.
  • Additional tour details and requirements, including appropriate attire and parking instructions, will be sent via your confirmation email.

If you are unable to meet these in-person tour requirements, we also offer virtual business and organization tours. For all questions regarding tour requirements, please contact us at tours@rethinkwaste.org.
