In-person tours of the Shoreway Environmental Center provide an inside look at how recyclables are sorted in our upgraded Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and how compost and garbage are consolidated at the Transfer Station. RethinkWaste staff will also review bin sorting, discuss reuse and reduction tips, and answer all your tricky questions about where items belong (or don’t belong!) when you no longer need them.
Tours are approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes long.
Registration is REQUIRED. We cannot accept walk ins on the day of the tour.ย
Registration is free and open to the public. Tours are limited to 15 registrants on a first come first serve basis. Minors under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children must be at least 8 years old to attend.
In-person public tours will be offered on the first Thursday of the month atย 9:30 a.m.ย If the first Thursday of the month is a holiday or immediately following a holiday, public tours will be held the following Thursday (the second Thursday of the month).
RethinkWaste reserves the right to cancel any tour due to staffing availability, weather conditions, or insufficient sign-ups.
ALL tour attendees are required to wear an agency provided hard hat, goggles and vest.ย
Additional tour details and requirements, including appropriate attire (long pants/closed toed shoes) and parking instructions, will be sent via your confirmation email.
If you are unable to meet these in-person tour requirements, we also offer virtual public tours every first Thursday of the month at 5 p.m.

UPDATE FOR 2026 TOUR OPENINGS: Due to severely reduced parking and site access, the number of In-Person Tours (both School and Business/Organization) will be limited through 2026.
For group tours that are unable to carpool or surpass the maximum number of allowed vehicles (5 vehicles total), bus/shuttle services will be required as there is limited parking available on site. If transportation is a hardship, please reach out to us.

All registrants are required to complete a waiver form. You may download, print, and bring a signed copy the day of the tour, or copies will be available to sign upon your arrival at Shoreway. Each participant must fill out an individual waiver form.
