Plastics of any kind, including bags, are not accepted in the Compost program, as they are not made of organic material and will not break down in an industrial compost facility.  You can use items such as newspaper or paper bags to wrap your food scraps in before placing them in the Compost Bin. SB 1383 is a California-wide law that aims to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants, including methane, which is released when organic material ends up in the landfill. The law mandates composting services and edible food recovery programs throughout the state. If your single family dwelling already has a green Compost Bin, SB 1383 will not affect your services, but proper sorting of materials among the three waste streams is now mandatory.
